the daily grind

13 Sep

Such a beautiful morning in Chicago today as I am on my way to work.  It sucks that I will be inside all day.  When I entered the train this morning, no one was on it EXCEPT a pigeon. Whoa random. It flew out at the next stop.

So. I have a bit to catch up on after my long weekend.

I started this morning with a green monster smoothie.  Mine contained spinach, 2 frozen bananas, almond milk, chia seeds, flaxseeds, and a scoop of sunflower seed butter. Yum!

The boyfriend has been sick all weekend so I don’t know if he will be going in to work today.  He took off yesterday and just took it easy, as in watching football all day.  I hope I don’t catch a cold from him!

Yesterday I made him a grilled

sandwich with carrot soup and oranges.  Have to get that vitamin C!

Now to talk about: the vet visit!  It went a lot better than expected.  Kiba was pretty calm and he took his 3 shots like a pro! The vet said he is the only cat she’s seen take this one particular shot so well. Its this huge gadget that forces the medicine out like a mist kinda. Idk. Anyways, he is all caught up on his shots and she told us to watch a particular knot on his side.  She said it may be an old injury from playing.

After the vet we took him to petsmart and I spent waaaay too much money on him, but he loves his new toys!

Next month my mom is coming into town for a conference and I am pretty excited. She hasn’t seen the apartment I’m in now or the new kitten that we got of course. This means I have got to clean, clean, clean!

After work tonight I have a few things that I need to do: write on thesis and write my reaction paper. Booooo! Can’t I be done with school already?

I haven’t posted in a few days because I have been quite busy. I had classes on Tuesday and Thursday (I had multiple things due in each class). Wednesday I started practicum and got to see my kids! Oh how I have missed the little munchkins.

Today I made my first Green Monster Smoothie. It was a bit thick, but I enjoyed it. I got to use my chia seeds today in it!! They arrived in the mail yesterday.

The Saints game was last night and (of course) they won! I play fantasy football and Brees is my QB. I want a shirt that says “lil breesy” or sumn like that lolz.

Today we take Kiba to the vet and possibly to get groomed. I am worried he is going to get stressed out. 😦

labor day

6 Sep

imageBreakfast: Oatmeal with blueberries and flaxseed.

Six feet under is ridiculously addicting. My boyfriend and I watched it for most of the day, only stopping to shower and workout.

Lunch: Toast with guacamole & turkey, banana

Workout: 20min, 1.31mi, 119cal (couch to 5k); 13min, .64mi, 63cal (walk)

My leg started hurting so I had to cut my workout short.

School starts back up tomorrow; I enjoyed my lazy four day weekend, but it is back to the grind tomorrow.  I am nervous about one of my classes because the teacher is mean and I may have to summarize an article that I read, but I really don’t know if I can since I have read eight of them this weekend alone.  It is hard to keep them straight.

I hope that I finally get my thesis edits back because it has been about 5 weeks since I turned it in.

going the distance

5 Sep

Kiba decided to help me write my reaction paper for class.  This basically sums up my morning: reading & writing a paper.  Kiba fell asleep on the job.

I thought today was going to be another boring study day, but I got a nice surprise for me around 3:00.  The boyfriend came home early from work!  I couldn’t believe it!

We ended up going to see the movie Going the Distance with a friend.  It was so hilarious and raunchy.  I loved it.

We went to the gym right after and got in a quick workout  before Ballys closed.  I started the Couch to 5k program and completed the first workout.  It was a little under my fitness level, but I am going to continue it.

Stats: 20:01min, 1.32 mi, 107cal

and so it begins

Today is pretty uneventful.  I have to read at least 8 articles and write a paper for a class on Tuesday.  This semester is going to be full.  The amount of work alone is substantial, not to mention I have thesis to work on, as well as a practicum site.

I am very excited about my thesis because it is something that I am extremely interested in.  I will be using a behavioral treatment package to increase physical activity in adults!  I also have to do a self-monitoring procedure for one class and I want to do it on increasing my own physical activity, perhaps with increasing my mileage.

Anyways, my whole day has been spent reading articles for class and watching lectures from the Healthy Living Summit.  I am so sad that I missed it!  I had no idea it was coming to Chicago, or rather that it existed at the time.  Hopefully  next year, if I am still in Chicago and if they have it here again, I will be able to attend.

I took a break to eat a healthy lunch of avocado & tomato toast with an edamame salad from whole foods.  It was delish.

And then it was back to reading articles.  Kiba wanted to help.

Oh! I did some research on Chia Seeds today, as I have seen them all over the blogger world recently.  I just had to order me some!  I have had some issues with my energy levels being really low and I am hoping that it will help with that.

Today is an off day for exercise.
